The Washington State Senate is seriously considering a bill that would ban natural gas in new construction starting June 30 of this year. While this will only impact customers and small businesses in Puget Sound Energy’s service area, and is the start to a state-wide ban.

HB 1589 would ban natural gas for new construction buildings eliminating our industry’s ability to expand into new communities with natural gas as a tool to do our jobs. With the elimination of new natural gas hookups comes the uncertainty of what this will cost the ratepayers in PSE’s service area.

Natural gas bans are costly. The city of Bellingham recently banned the use of natural gas in new buildings and since then, rates for existing natural gas consumers have skyrocketed.

Click here urge your Senator to vote NO on HB 1589 and protect our ability to use this crucial tool.
