New costly ergonomics requirements (HB 1837)
HB 1837 would allow the Department of Labor and Industries to open rulemaking on ergonomics after a two decade prohibition. As amended and passed out of the Senate Labor and Commerce Committee on Feb. 24, this legislation now directly targets our industry.
HB 1837 now delays implementation for every other industry until after 2027 except for janitorial/custodial services like housekeeping and room attendant jobs in the hospitality industry. While we were already opposed to the bill, we certainly take even more issue with being targeted while we are still struggling for survival due to the pandemic.
Action Alert status: Thanks to your engement, we were able to defeat this bill in the Senate.
